INTRODUCTION

 

The Paloma Digital Art Awards 2023 is the first annual competition presented by Galeria Paloma.

 

Please read the Mechanics, Submission Requirements, and Terms and Conditions for information.

 

Please read this document carefully so that your entry will not be disqualified on a technicality.

 

Digital art, for the purpose of this competition, will refer to works of art created in and with the use of computers, electronic gadgets, software and such in the creative process and resulting artwork.

 

For this year, entries which use artificial intelligence will not be accepted.

THEME

This year's theme is 'The Past Holds the Future, the Future Holds the Past,' a theme centered on how learning from, looking to, and leaning on the past propels us to move towards our future and is based on a quote by Filipino national hero Jose Rizal: 'He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination.'

 

CONTEST DURATION and COVERAGE

 

The Paloma Digital Art Awards 2023 is open to Philippine citizens residing here or abroad. Promo period is from June  to August 15, 2023.

COMPLETE MECHANICS

 

1.     Theme and Categories

 

The 2023 Paloma Digital Art Awards (PDAA) competition categories are as follows:

 

         Category 1: Solo

         Sub-Categories

         1. Still

         2. Animated/Video

 

         Category 2: Collaboration

         Sub-Categories:

         1. Still

         2. Animated/Video

 

An entrant may enter other categories and sub-categories provided they meet the requirements of each category. The entrant may submit a maximum of one (1) entry per sub-category. If more than one (1) entry is submitted in the same sub-category, only the first entry will be included in the contest.

 

2.     Steps to Join

 

2.1   Visit the Galeria Paloma website at https://www.galeriapaloma.com and click the Paloma Digital Art Awards link to enter the PDAA page.

 

2.2   Depending on the category the contestant intends to join, click on the appropriate official entry form. Should the contestant wish to join more than 1 subcategory, each entry per subcategory must have its own entry form:

2.3   Complete the appropriate entry forms with all the information required including complete name, contact details, valid government-issued ID, title and description of artwork, and attestations to the originality of artwork.

 

2.4   Once the entry form is submitted, it will enter the private database of entries for the PDAA for evaluation.

 

2.5   Should an entry form be incomplete, the contestant will be informed via electronic mail and will be requested to submit a new and complete entry form before the deadline of August 15, 2023.

 

 

3.     Submission Requirements

 

3.1.  Solo, Still or Animated: The competition is open to all Filipino citizens who are at least 18 years of age. All entrants must submit through the entry form a .jpg or .png file of a valid government-issued document or identification card proving Filipino citizenship, such as an image of their Philippine passport, PSA birth certificate, driver’s license, postal ID, etc. Student/school IDs, employment/work IDs and similar will not be accepted.

 

3.2.  Group, Still or Animated: A group/collaboration must have a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of four (4) members, who are least 18 years of age, and with at least (1) member of Filipino citizenship.  All entrants must submit through the entry form a .jpg or .png file of a valid government-issued document or identification card proving legitimate identity and to validate that at least one (1) member is of Filipino citizenship. Student/school IDs, employment/work IDs and similar will not be accepted.

 

3.3   All employees of Galeria Paloma, and their affiliates and partners for the contest if any, and their relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity are disqualified from joining this contest.

 

3.4   All entrants attest that the submitted artwork is an original work solely conceptualized, created, and executed by the entrant/artist; for group/collaborations, the artists involved attest that the submitted artwork is an original work solely conceptualized, created, and executed collaboratively by each group member. Should it be found that the artwork or a portion of the artwork is not original, or infringes on a copyright or trademark belonging to another individual or group/collective, the entry will be automatically disqualified from the competition. Galeria Paloma will not be liable for any copyright infringement and its penalties.

 

3.5. Entries must not include names, likenesses, voices, or other characteristics that identify celebrities or public figures living or dead in an inappropriate or derogatory manner. Entries must not contain any content glorifying violent acts, abuse, criminal offenses, racist ideology, pornography, offensive language, and offensive depictions of religious themes.

 

3.6. Entrants are required to list all programs used in the creation of the artwork. For this year, entries which use artificial intelligence will not be accepted.

 

3.7. Entries must not include any visible signatures of the artist/s or any identifying content. The entrant(s)/artist(s) must not announce their artwork entry on social media or any publication, or make any contact with the panel of judges, in order to keep the artist’s identity confidential. This is to ensure fairness in competition and judging. Failure to comply may result in the disqualification of the work. The identity of artists will only be announced publicly by Galeria Paloma at the end of the judging period once finalists and winners are determined.

 

3.8. Entries must not have been publicly published or posted, sold, or minted on a blockchain at any time before the commencement of the competition. Entries must not have been previously submitted to any other contest. Entries must not be placed for sale by the artist during the duration of the competition.

 

3.9 Once the artwork has been submitted successfully via the online form, the artist cannot withdraw the entry. Alterations, improvements, or any additions to the artwork cannot be made after the artwork has been submitted.

 

3.10. File formats and specifications

 

3.10.1. Still: Submissions must be in JPEG or PNG format, with an aspect ratio of 16:9, landscape (1920px x 1080px) or portrait orientation (1920px x 1080px). Augmented reality layers using the Artivive app are accepted; other augmented reality programs are also accepted, provided the program is free to the public for use. Please indicate the application/program to be used to view the AR layer (form entry). File size should not exceed 100MB.

 

         3.10.2. Animated: Submissions must be in HD (high-definition) MP4 file formats and with a maximum duration of thirty (30) seconds, with or without audio. File size should not exceed 100MB. Augmented reality layers are accepted if applicable; please indicate application/program to be used to view the AR layer (form entry). File size should not exceed 100MB.

 

         3.10.3. Files should be named in the following format:

3.11 The deadline of submission of entries is on August 15, 2023. Entries received after the deadline will not be included in the contest.

 

 

 

JUDGING, AWARDING, AND PRIZES

 

1. Judges

 

The members of the judging body will be determined by Galeria Paloma and will be composed of influential local and international art personalities. 

 

Judges’ decisions on winning artworks are final.

 

Judges will not be informed of the identities of any entrant until winners are determined.

 

Galeria Paloma, its staff, and directors will not be part of the judging panel. Galeria Paloma directors will merely verify that entry forms include all required information and in proper formats.

 

         1.1 The PDAA will have two (2) rounds of judging in the presence of a DTI Representative:

                       

                     1.1a Preliminary Judging Round - August 24, 2023 (determination of top ten finalists per sub-category)

                     1.1b Final Judging Round - September 10, 2023 (determination of one winner for each subcategory)

                                 Mr. Kenny Schachter, artist, writer, and lecturer

                       

 

2. Criteria for Judging and Determination of Winners

 

         2.1 The artworks will be judged according to this criteria:

 

         Theme clarity and interpretation: 25%.

         Creativity, originality, and impact of the theme interpretation: 25%.

         Execution: 25%.

         Overall artistic and creative effect and impression of the artwork: 25%.

 

         2.2 Venue of judging will be physically in Metro Manila, while overseas/international judges will judge the entries online.

                2.2a For international judges in the Final Round of Judging, the top ten (10) artworks per subcategory will be sent to each Final                    Round judge via direct email after the Preliminary Judging Round, but before September 10, 2023.

 

                 2.2b Each Final Round judge   will complete the official score sheet in PDF form, and return the filled score sheet to Galeria                         Paloma signed by the judge.

 

                 2.2c All three (3) completed score sheets will be tallied in front of a DTI representative in a physical location in Metro Manila on                   September 10, 2023.

 

         2.3 In case of a tie in the preliminary round, judges will deliberate the score and have another judging round on the same day to determine only ten (10) finalists per subcategory.

 

         2.4 In case of a tie in the final round, judges will deliberate the score and have another judging round on the same day to determine only one (1) winner per subcategory.

 

 

 

3. Awarding and Prizes, Claiming of Prizes

 

3.1 Winners will be awarded the following:

 

         Solo - Still Php 50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Pesos)

         Solo - Animated/Video Php 50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Pesos)

         Group - Still Php 50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Pesos)

         Group - Animated/Video Php 50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Pesos)

 

3.2 Tax (including 20% withholding tax for prizes exceeding Php 10,000.00) and other fees that will be incurred in relation to the cash prize shall be shouldered by the winner.

 

3.3 Prize money will be given via cheque during the awarding ceremony in October 15, 2023, and addressed to the winner using the name on the winner’s government-issued ID. If the awardee resides overseas, prize money will be wired to the winner with transfer fees shouldered by the winner.

 

3.4 Cash prize is non-transferable.

 

3.5 Gifts in kind may also be awarded to the winners from PDAA partners and these are not convertible to cash, and are non-transferable.

 

3.6 The top ten (10) finalists of each sub-category and all winning artworks will be included in a group exhibition for the Paloma Digital Art Awards in October 15, 2023, in Metro Manila. Winning artworks (total of 4, 1 per sub-category) will automatically become the property of Galeria Paloma; for winning artworks, in the case of a resale, the artists will have the protection of a 10% royalty for every resale of the artwork in perpetuity via a smart contract minted on Galeria Paloma’s preferred blockchain. Artworks by finalists may be placed for sale at the exhibition and will be covered by individual, separate artist-gallery agreements.

 

3.7 Other artworks submitted in the competition, but not included in the top ten, may be included in the exhibition/s at the sole discretion of Galeria Paloma. The contestant will be informed of their artwork’s inclusion in said exhibition.

 

3.8 All winners will be notified via registered mail, direct electronic mail, and via SMS Message. Winners will be announced in Galeria Paloma’s official website and official social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter), and included in all press releases relating to the announcement of the winners of the awards. Press releases will be sent to local publications and magazines.

3.9 A winner may win in more than one sub-category if their work is found to be the best in the  sub-categories.

 

3.10 All winners will have sixty (60) days after receiving their notice to redeem their cash prize from Galeria Paloma. Should they be unable to make a personal appearance at the awarding ceremony, they may claim their cash prize anytime within sixty (60) days from receipt of registered notice from at the Galeria Paloma offices in Parañaque City, Metro Manila, or it will be forfeited in favor of Galeria Paloma with prior approval of DTI.

 

3.11 If claiming the cash prize through an authorized representative, the winner must submit a (wet) signed authorization letter that includes the name of the representative, a clear photocopy of the winner’s government-issued ID, and a clear photocopy of the representative’s government-issued ID.
